Data Engineer (Contract) (m/f/d)

A leading financial services organization undergoing a major data transformation initiative is seeking skilled Data Engineers to join its data function as it executes an ambitious 2026 data roadmap. You will be instrumental in building and optimizing the organization’s cloud-based data infrastructure as it transitions from legacy Hadoop & SQL systems to a modern Lakehouse architecture on AWS.
This role offers the opportunity to architect and implement scalable data pipelines within a banking environment, working with cutting-edge cloud technologies and modern data engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines on AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Implement and optimize Lakehouse architecture following Medallion Architecture principles (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers)
  • Develop automated data pipeline solutions using AWS Glue and related services
  • Work with AWS data services including S3, Redshift, and Athena to build robust data solutions
  • Integrate data from limited external sources into a centralized data warehouse
  • Ensure data pipelines are well-logged, performant, and maintainable
  • Implement data quality checks and monitoring across pipeline stages
  • Collaborate with data modelers to implement data models within the technical architecture
  • Document technical designs, data flows, and pipeline configurations

Required Qualifications
Essential:
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services (S3, Redshift, Athena)
  • Proven experience building and implementing Lakehouse architectures
  • Expertise in data pipeline automation and orchestration
  • Solid experience with AWS Glue, including Glue job creation and optimization
  • Deep understanding of Medallion Architecture:
    • Bronze layer: Raw data ingestion and storage
    • Silver layer: Cleaned, validated, and processed data
    • Gold layer: Business-ready, consumption-optimized datasets
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues
  • Experience working in enterprise or banking environments

Highly Preferred:
  • Experience migrating from Hadoop/SQL environments to cloud-based architectures
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance requirements in banking
  • Familiarity with semantic data layers and data modeling concepts
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
  • Understanding of CI/CD practices for data pipelines
