Cloud Network Engineer (m/f/d)
Job Title: Cloud Network Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Network Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This role will focus on maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing our existing network infrastructure, which includes a significant footprint of legacy platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of core networking principles, hands-on experience with older networking hardware and protocols, and a proactive approach to ensuring network stability and performance. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking concepts is a plus as we look to integrate and potentially migrate certain workloads. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned network professional who thrives on solving complex challenges and has a passion for ensuring the reliability of critical network systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level support for the organization's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other network appliances, with a focus on legacy platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across various layers of the OSI model, utilizing strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
- Maintain and configure legacy routing and switching protocols (e.g., RIP, older versions of OSPF/BGP, VLANs, STP).
- Manage and support older WAN technologies such as T1/E1, Frame Relay (if applicable), and analog lines (if applicable).
- Perform network monitoring and analysis to identify performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and potential issues within the legacy environment.
- Implement security best practices on legacy network devices and configurations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures for both current and legacy systems.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of legacy systems with newer technologies, including GCP networking services.
- Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades and migrations, with a focus on minimizing disruption to critical services, potentially involving migration to GCP.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies, particularly as they relate to the evolution and potential replacement of legacy systems, with a specific interest in GCP networking.
- Provide on-call support as needed to ensure the availability and stability of the network infrastructure.
- Manage vendor relationships for maintenance and support of legacy network equipment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.1

- Proven experience working with a variety of legacy network hardware from vendors such as [List potential vendors like Cisco, Juniper, HP/Aruba (older models), etc.].
- Deep understanding of core networking concepts, including TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, switching, and network security principles.
- Solid experience with legacy routing protocols (RIP, OSPFv2, BGPv4) and switching protocols (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel).
- Familiarity with older WAN technologies (T1/E1, Frame Relay) and their configuration.
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SNMP, Syslog).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting complex network issues.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking concepts, including VPC, subnets, firewalls, Cloud Router, and Cloud VPN in the past 3 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
- Experience with network automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) for managing both modern and legacy systems.
- Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
