A large organisation is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help strengthen the backend foundations of a next-generation digital platform. The successful candidate will contribute to building scalable, secure, and maintainable backend services, support the integration layer between digital channels and enterprise systems, and play an active role in technical delivery, continuous improvement, and platform evolution.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integration components that support multiple digital channels.
- Build reusable and scalable backend capabilities while ensuring reliability, resilience, and service quality.
- Contribute to the evolution of the platform integration layer and support the implementation of effective integration patterns.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, proof-of-concepts, and architecture-related implementation activities.
- Implement automated testing practices and quality controls, while supporting troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance improvements.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to validate platform capabilities and support sound technical decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a backend engineer, software engineer, API engineer, or in a similar role delivering production-grade backend services.
- Strong knowledge of API design, backend service development, system integration, and service-oriented architecture principles.
- Understanding of secure and scalable distributed systems, including authentication and authorisation concepts.
- Experience with automated testing, quality practices, and maintaining operational reliability in backend environments.
- Ability to work effectively in Agile environments, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Professional proficiency in English and at least one of the following: French or Dutch.
