Senior Engineer - Multi-Robot Systems Software Development & Simulation (m/f/d)

Permanent
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
05.11.2026

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Senior Engineer to lead the development of scalable software architectures, simulation environments, and Sim-to-Real deployment pipelines for advanced multi-robot systems.
This role sits at the intersection of robotics software engineering, simulation, systems integration, and field deployment. You will play a critical role in transforming cutting-edge algorithms and prototype concepts into robust, deployable solutions operating across complex robotic platforms.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with a leadership mindset, remaining actively involved in software development while guiding architectural decisions and mentoring engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Software Architecture & Systems Integration

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software architectures and middleware solutions for distributed multi-robot systems.
  • Translate research concepts, algorithms, and prototypes into robust, production-quality software.
  • Develop high-performance applications using modern C++ and Python.
  • Establish and promote software engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing strategies, and maintainable system design.

Simulation & Sim-to-Real Development

  • Build and manage high-fidelity robotics simulation environments to validate autonomous behaviors and multi-agent coordination strategies.
  • Own and continuously improve Sim-to-Real workflows, ensuring reliable transfer of capabilities from simulation to physical platforms.
  • Analyze telemetry, system logs, and field performance data to identify and close simulation-reality gaps.

Deployment, Testing & Validation

  • Take ownership of solutions throughout the entire development lifecycle, from concept and simulation through physical deployment and validation.
  • Participate in field testing activities, debugging software and system behaviors in real-world environments.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to integrate autonomy, perception, communication, and coordination capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Robotics, Control Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on software development experience with:
    • C++
    • Python
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining high-fidelity robotics simulation environments such as Gazebo or custom simulation frameworks.
  • Proven experience bridging the Sim-to-Real gap and deploying robotics solutions from simulation into real-world systems.
  • Extensive experience with ROS2 and the development of scalable middleware architectures.
  • Strong background in Multi-Robot Systems (MRS), swarm robotics, or distributed autonomous systems.
  • Experience developing communication and coordination frameworks for multiple robots, UAVs, UGVs, or heterogeneous robotic fleets.
  • Willingness to take full ownership of solutions through software development, validation, integration, and field deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience deploying robotic systems on physical platforms in operational environments.
  • Experience with autonomous aerial, ground, or marine systems.
  • Familiarity with robotics frameworks and autopilot ecosystems such as:
    • PX4
    • ArduPilot
    • Nav2
    • MOOS-IvP
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and robotics DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of networking and communication challenges in distributed robotic systems, including concepts such as:
    • Mesh networking
    • Low-bandwidth communications
    • Network latency
    • Intermittent connectivity

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical expertise, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • A hands-on engineering mindset and active coding involvement.
  • Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to decompose complex technical challenges into executable workstreams.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
  • Adaptability in fast-paced R&D and advanced technology environments.
  • Creativity in designing practical and scalable robotics solutions.
