Senior Data Engineer - GCP & SAP
Job SummaryThis role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and strategic thinking, with a strong focus on connecting SAP systems with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and integration solutions, primarily between SAP products (like SAP BW and S/4HANA) and GCP services, especially BigQuery. A successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping our data architecture to enhance data reliability, efficiency, and accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and management of scalable and reliable data pipelines to support data migration and integration projects between SAP and GCP
- Design and implement solutions for extracting data from various SAP sources (including SAP BW and S/4HANA) and ingesting it into Google BigQuery
- Work hands-on with SAP integration tools and technologies such as standard SAP extractors, Aecorsoft, the Google Cloud ABAP SDK, and SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server (SLT)
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data analysts, and other engineers to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions
- Develop and maintain data models within BigQuery to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security standards are met throughout the entire data lifecycle
- Act as a subject matter expert on SAP to GCP data integration, providing guidance and best practices to the wider team
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data pipeline and integration issues in a timely manner.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of working on large-scale data integration and migration projects
- Strong, practical experience working with SAP systems, specifically SAP BW and S/4HANA
- Demonstrated experience with various SAP data integration tools and methodologies (e.g., SAP Extractors, Aecorsoft, Google ABAP SDK, SLT)
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language, such as Python
- Experience with SAP development (e.g., ABAP) is highly desirable
- Solid understanding of ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD methodologies for data pipelines
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, particularly BigQuery, Dataflow, and Cloud Storage
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, agile environment
