Job Description – Senior BMC Discovery Consultant to join our client, an EU Institution.
The Senior BMC Discovery Consultant is responsible for designing, implementing, optimising, and maintaining enterprise‑wide Discovery capabilities to ensure the CMDB contains complete, accurate, and trusted configuration data. This role ensures seamless integration of multiple data sources, enhances automation, improves data quality, and builds reliable service and application models used across ITSM for operational processes (Incident, Change, Problem, Asset, and Service Impact Analysis).
Key Responsibilities
Utilize the Application modelling feature of BMC Discovery to understand the infrastructure supporting our services and the key relationships between business operations and IT infrastructure, so that we can maintain accurate service models for ITSM and enable effective Service Impact Analysis.
Identify and automatically relate dependent Applications from the BMC Application Class in CMDB through various asset relationships and asset information (servers, middleware, databases, network flows, integrations and metadata on the server level) that are discovered and included into service maps in BMC Discovery.
so that we have an accurate architecture representation that will be utilized in other ITSM processes.

- Application Modelling
Utilize the Application modelling feature of BMC Discovery to understand the infrastructure supporting our services and the key relationships between business operations and IT infrastructure, so that we can maintain accurate service models for ITSM and enable effective Service Impact Analysis.
- Configure BMC Discovery Application Modelling for key business services (Phase 1 critical services, Phase 2 broader portfolio).
- Improve accuracy and depth of service maps to support ITSM processes including Incident Impact, Change Impact, and Problem root‑cause identification.
- Validate discovered relationships and reconcile them against the CMDB data model, ensuring CI relationships comply with modelling standards.
- Discovery enhancements and Data Source integrations with CMDB
- Network Scan Integration: Ingest discovered IPs, hostnames, OS fingerprints, open ports, and hardware details from network scanning tools (e.g., Nmap, Qualys, or existing discovery engines).
- Consolidation Logic: Merge network scan data with other sources to fill gaps (e.g., missing IPs, MAC addresses, OS details).
- Normalisation: Apply standard naming conventions, OS family mapping, and software title normalisation across all sources.

- Additional Responsibilities
- Develop or customise BMC Discovery patterns to enhance coverage.
- Perform root cause analysis for Discovery or CMDB data gaps.
- Support audits and compliance checks related to discovery coverage, accuracy, scan frequency, and data integrity.
- Provide expert guidance and training to technical teams and Service Owners regarding discovery behaviour, data interpretation, and modelling.
- Human-led investigation of CMDB discrepancies based on various data sources.
- Engagement with CI owners, service owners, and source system SMEs to correct information that is manually set.
- Controlled updates to CMDB records based on validated information.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with BMC ITSM Suite (BMC Discovery especially Application Modelling module, SmartIT, Helix ITSM/CMDB, Atrium CMDB).
- BMC Certified Professional – Discovery
- Experience with Splunk or similar scanning/monitoring tools
- Experience in complex organisations with multi‑layered infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of CMDB data modelling, CI lifecycle management, and ITIL v4 configuration management practices.
- Practical experience with BMC SmartIT, including workflows, assignment rules, and automation.
- Ability to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.
- Understanding of ITIL v4 processes (especially Incident, Change, Problem, Service Level, and Availability Management).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent English. Any other language is considered a plus.
- Experience with Agile and Azure DevOps is considered a plus.
